Korea Christian Home Education Curriculum Project Tools for the Task
It is a great joy to update you on our progress with the Korea Christian Home Education Curriculum Project. Since the very beginning of the Korean home schooling movement, the re has been a huge need for suitable home school curriculum . Imagine yourself believing that God has called you to home school your child, but you don’t have any resources to guide you toward that goal.
New home schooling families struggle in a barren wasteland. Korea’s humanistic and secularized education system is like a parched desert that offers little sustenance for Christian families . Like the dry earth longing for moisture, they await the production of curriculums that will assist them in providing a Christ-centered education to their children. When these resources are provided, I believe we shall see the desert begin to bloom as a host of parents grab s hold of these tools and diligently put s them to use in their homes. Like ground that is broken up by the plow, Korean families have been prepared by decades of hardship and suffering. Surely, home education will flourish across the Korean peninsula like the dessert that blooms forth after the rain.
Recognizing this great potential, our vision is to produce the first ever Christ -centered curriculum in the Korean language. This curriculum will have three distinctives:
- Bible-centered - based on the Christian worldview.
- Home school friendly – designed specifically for parents to use at home.
- Korea specific – teaching Korean culture, government, literature, and history.
Since February of 2005, the Lord has brought together a team that has committed themselves to making this vision a reality. Several churches that support home schooling, curriculum experts, professors , and home school parents have volunteered to assist with the writing, development , and publishing of this curriculum.
The team is progressing toward the goal of producing a B eta version of the core curriculum by March of 2006 . After completing curriculum for grades 1-4 we will move on to the upper grades. Within two years we should have a core curriculum that is suitable for elementary to high school level. Although this will require a huge amount of development , research , and writing, thankfully we do not have to produce everything from scratch. A number of US curriculum suppliers have granted us permission to translate some of their materials, includ ing the following ministries :
- Apologia Science - science resources
- IBLP Ministries - character qualities
- Home School in the Woods - history and timelines
- Eagles ’ Wings - science curriculum
- Cornerstone Curriculum - Christian world view , history , and literature
- Christ Centered Curriculum – phonics, English, and math
The Lord has amazingly blessed us with a base of volunteers and contributions to make this project possible. Now we are praying that the Lord w ill provide funds for a full -time staff member to coordinat e the efforts of the volunteer s. While many people have offered to help with the various aspects of the project, without a full -time person to coordinate their efforts it will be very difficult for us to effectively move forward. We are asking the Lord to provide funds through those willing to support this project coordinator on a monthly basis to cover the cost of salary . About $1,700 a month will be required. If the Lord is calling you to assist with this ministry please click here to learn more.
God is moving hearts in South Korea, and we expect great things to come as desperately needed tools become available. Please pray with us for the following needs :
- Clear direction for our team.
- Good organization of the many aspects of the project.
- Creativity and insight as we seek to develop excellent content.
- $1,700 a month for the salary of a full -time staff project coordinator.
- Additional funds for publication.
Conclusion:
It is fitting that we lift the needs of the Korean people before the Lord in prayer. Please join us in this prayer for Korea based on the promise of Ezekiel 34.
Good and Gracious Heavenly Father, deliver your people from a barren wasteland! Do not let our dear Korean brothers and sisters remain the victims of famine. May they be freed from the curse of godless education! Oh, LORD, like refreshing showers that water a desert land, we ask you to provide the curriculums that Korean Christian parents so desperately need. May Korean children come to truly know you as their God through education that places a knowledge of Christ at the center of all learning. We implore You to bring blessing to tens of thousands of families through the restoration of Biblical education to the home. Oh, faithful God of promise, give your people in Korea a host of sons and daughters who will grow up strong and take dominion in the land. At last, may the desert bloom forth with a million flowers to glorify Your name!
Thank you for your prayers for us, we look forward to keeping you updated with new developments as we move forward on this exciting project that has the potential of changing a nation.
